Inspired Packaging through the 3i Design Approach

Inspiration sparks the imagination and drives productivity through the anticipation of something new. At Berry, we believe in providing our customers with the necessary and thrilling inspiration that can lead to the creation of a noteworthy product. We provide customers with a new way of thinking about the issues and concerns facing consumers today. Our in-house design team, Blue Clover Studios, designs with sustainability, ease of use, e-commerce, and much more in mind. The team employs a three step approach, the 3i® Design Process, which allows for collaborative ideation. This approach elevates our ideas into a design that identifies unmet consumer needs in the marketplace and drives an enhanced user experience.

Taking recent industry trends into consideration, Blue Clover Studios has addressed the aging population through ease of use for the consumer with child-resistant closures for their loved ones. According to the Chief of the Population Estimates Branch of the US Census Bureau, “The nation1 is aging-more than four out of every five counties were older in 2018 than in 2010. This aging is driven, in large part, by baby boomers crossing over the 65-year-old mark. Now, half of the U.S. population is over the age of 38.2.” This growing consumer base has become an opportunity for us to produce some of the most innovative packaging in the marketplace.

Our Blue Clover team feels the greatest amount of inspiration through the personal connection to consumers. Contextual inquiry, a key component to our design approach, reveals insights through observation. Instead of using the information provided by consumers about what they say they do, we witness what they actually do when they use current commercialized packaging. Through this research, we can discover the frustrations consumers might experience at home, and design a better experience for those who inspire our high level of creativity and productivity.
