In an effort to keep populations healthy in the wake of COVID-19, health officials are encouraging hand washing. This necessary precaution has altered the landscape for the lotion industry, as there is an increased demand due to dry skin. A Time Magazine article recently claimed, “Frequent hand washing, though a reliable way to ward off illness, can lead to and exacerbate dry skin issues, according to dermatologists.”

This needed change in hygiene habits has made dry skin a bit of a challenge for many when outside of their homes. “[Dr. Justin Ko, Chief of Medical Dermatology at Stanford Health] says using hand cream after washing your hands is a safe and clean way to prevent dry skin, and he suggests people carry their own personal tubes of moisturizer to avoid spreading germs by sharing with others,” stated Time Magazine. In an article in USA Today, Mayo Dermatologist Alina Bridges compared the natural oils in skin to a new wax coating on a car, because it has protective qualities. She stated, “On your hands, there’s usually oil, waxy substances. And then, if you use anything harsh on your skin, or if you wash your hands frequently, you’re just going to strip away those natural oils, and then your hands will start to get cracked, dry, [and] raw.”

As populations follow important guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, skin can avoid discomfort from new hygiene precautions through lotion. Bridges went on to state that the best defense against dryness is moisturizing after washing. “[…] You want to kind of seal it and maybe prevent some of this dryness from occurring.” Ideal for lotions and creams, tubes provide an accessible packaging solution that helps consumers at home, or anywhere they might need it.

We supply laminated and extruded tubes in a wide variety of sizes, styles, colors, and decorating options. Assembled in the US, these tubes help dispense the ideal amount of lotion.
